What the survey says

The UK Business Data Survey 2026 reports that 5% of businesses handling digitised data and using AI said they used automated decision-making. Its ADM questions were asked only of businesses reporting AI use, whereas the earlier survey asked a broader population. That difference limits direct comparisons. [1]

ADM perspective

AI adoption and automated decision-making are not interchangeable measures. Before reusing a figure in a strategy deck or public claim, record who was asked, how the question was defined and when the fieldwork happened. A small methodological note can change the meaning of a large headline.
