The announcement
The government announced an expansion of frontier-AI cyber-defence work on 12 October. It says two pilots have already helped identify and fix more than 1,000 potential vulnerabilities across government systems. That is a reported pilot result, not a general accuracy score for AI security tools. [1]
What remains in development
The package includes preparation for serious incidents involving autonomous agents and consideration of stronger protections through the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill regime. Incident and near-miss reporting is among the issues being considered. The announcement should not be read as confirmation that every proposed measure is already a legal requirement. [1]
ADM perspective
Track detection, verification and remediation separately. A useful automation programme measures which findings were confirmed, who authorised changes and whether the fix introduced another failure.
