What changed
On 6 October, the government said it accepted all 44 recommendations from the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare. The MHRA also opened applications for the third phase of AI Airlock, its regulatory sandbox for AI-enabled medical devices. [1]
A lifecycle approach
The response emphasises assessing devices throughout their working life rather than relying mainly on an initial assessment. The announcement sets out further guidance, consultation and implementation work. Acceptance of the recommendations is not the same as all reforms being enacted, and sandbox participation is not product authorisation. [1]
ADM perspective
For a deployment team, keep model changes, monitoring evidence and escalation responsibilities connected. Treat a good result at launch as the start of an assurance record, not its final entry.
