Commission recommendations · response pending

What has been proposed

The National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare recommends staged authorisations, ongoing real-world monitoring and better public access to safety information. The MHRA’s announcement says the recommendations draw on engagement with more than 12,000 people. [1]

Recommendations are not enacted rules

The government and MHRA are to consider the proposals before issuing a formal response. The announcement describes a potential future framework, rather than a complete regulatory regime already operating under these recommendations. [1]

ADM perspective

An AI system can change after it enters service. That makes the record of performance, incidents and human interventions important well beyond procurement. The proposal is worth following for its approach to accountability across a system’s working life.
